(a) e^(i π/2)

(b) i^i

Solution:

(a) cos (π/2) + i sin(π/2) = 0 + i x 1 = i

(b) Using the above terms,

i^i = e^(i^2 π/2) = e^(-π/2)

Continued:

Show that |e^(ix)| = 1.

Solution: Using complex conjugates:

|z|^2 = zz*

= e^(ix) e^(-ix)

= e^(ix - ix)

= e^0 = 1
